Sports Massage

Winchester Health Clinic is now delighted to offer a fully qualified sports massage offering, initially on Thursday evenings to complement our current Physiotherapy and Aquatic Physiotherapy services. We are delight to introduce Sophie Long to our clinic who is a Level 3 Sports Massage therapist.

What is Sports Massage?

Sports massage is the manipulation, management, and treatment of soft tissues within the body including muscles, fascia, ligaments and tendons. While sports massage is really useful for sporting individuals it can also be really beneficial for people who have muscular aches and pains. As well as being really useful at reducing symptoms it can also be a useful way of keeping on top of muscle tightness and stopping symptoms from worsening.

What are the benefits of Sports Massage ?

Improved circulation and lymphatic flow

Assist removal of waste products

Stimulate or sedate nerve endings

Improve muscle length / flexibility

Psychologically – enhance recovery and preparedness to train

Reduce stress levels

What is involved in a sports massage session?

The first session will involve a detailed medical history as well exploring your current presentation whether that be an ache or pain or simply looking to reap the benefits of sports massage. This will then be followed by a sports massage session working on the appropriate areas. The initial session is 45minutes and then any follow ups can either be 45 or 30minutes which can be discussed between yourself and the therapist. We place a great deal of importance of getting to know you during the first session and will be in constant communication to ensure the right techniques and pressures are applied to your preferences.

How much will it cost?

Initial assessments are £40 as well as 45 minute follow ups, while 30minutes follow ups are £36.

What shall I wear?

We would recommend you wear appropriate clothing to allow us to examine and treat that area. For example, shorts work really well for any lower limb issues. During all appointments towels are used to ensure privacy and dignity is respected at all times. We welcome a chaperone if you feel this would make you feel more comfortable.
